Thankfully you spawn in the fairly safe Mushroom biome, near a village. (Go North!)

You should start yourself off with Tinkers tools (tools and weapon) ASAP.
When you find metal ores, you should either smelt them, or grind them in a Quartz Grindstone. This way, you
get more metal from your ores!
